# Quick start

This guide takes you through the complete NeuroCards study loop: create a deck, add a few cards, review them, and let NeuroCards schedule what you should see next.

You only need a few questions and answers from a subject you are studying. The whole walkthrough should take about ten minutes.

## 1. Create your account

1. **Open NeuroCards**

Go to [NeuroCards](https://neurocards.net/home). If you are not already signed in, NeuroCards opens the sign-in page. Continue with Google, or enter your email address.
2. **Finish signing up**

If the email is new, enter your name and choose a password. Follow the email verification step when prompted.
3. **Pick your pace**

Choose **Steady**, **Balanced**, or **Intensive** to set how many new cards NeuroCards introduces each day. You can skip this step to use Balanced, and change it later in **Settings**.

## 2. Create your first deck

1. Open **Library** from the sidebar.
2. Select **+ New deck**.
3. Give the deck a clear name, such as `Computer Science — Data Representation`.
4. Add an optional description and folder.
5. Select **Create deck**.

A **deck** holds cards from one topic. Keeping a deck focused makes its progress easier to understand and lets you study that topic on its own.

## 3. Add some cards

Open the deck and select **Add cards**. Each card has:

- A **front** containing a question, term, or short prompt.
- A **back** containing the answer you want to recall.

The live preview shows how Markdown and maths will appear during a review. Select **Save card** after each card; the editor stays open so you can add several in a row. Add at least five cards, then select **Done**.

> **Tip**
>
> Keep each card about one fact or idea. A precise question with a short answer is usually easier to remember than a card containing an entire paragraph.

## 4. Complete your first review

From the deck page, select **Study now**.

1. Read the question and try to recall the answer before revealing it.
2. Click the card or press `Space` to reveal the answer.
3. Compare the answer with what you remembered.
4. Choose the rating that best describes your recall:

| Rating | Use it when |
|---|---|
| **Again** | You could not recall the answer. |
| **Hard** | You recalled it with significant effort or made a small mistake. |
| **Good** | You recalled the answer correctly with normal effort. |
| **Easy** | The answer was immediate and the card feels very familiar. |

NeuroCards uses the rating to calculate the card's next review. **Again** brings it back sooner; stronger ratings allow a longer interval.

Continue until you reach the session summary. If you want to keep going, you can introduce more new cards or review previously seen cards ahead of schedule.

## 5. Return when cards are due

The **Home** page shows today's reviews and remaining new cards. You can:

- Open one deck or folder and select **Study now** for a focused session.
- Open **Review** for a mixed session across your library.
- Open **Stats** to see activity, recall rate, card stages, and upcoming work.

You have now completed the central NeuroCards workflow. Read [The basics](/the-basics) for a fuller explanation of decks, queues, ratings, and study settings, or browse the [Guides](/guides) for specific tasks.
