Organise your library

Structure NeuroCards with nested folders and decks, then move, reorder, search, and study the material you need.

Updated View as Markdown

The library has two building blocks: folders group related material, while decks contain the cards you study. Folders can be nested to any depth.

A simple structure usually works best:

Computer Science
├── Data structures
│   ├── Stacks and queues
│   └── Trees and graphs
└── Algorithms
    └── Searching and sorting

Use broad subjects for top-level folders and focused topics for decks. This makes it easy to study one topic or an entire folder of related decks.

Create folders and decks

Create a folder

In Library, select + New folder, enter a name, and optionally choose a parent under Inside. Select Create folder.

Create a deck

Select + New deck, enter its name, and optionally add a description and choose its folder. Select Create deck.

Keep each deck focused

Prefer a deck you can describe in one short phrase. Create a folder above several related decks instead of placing an entire subject in one very large deck.

Move and reorder items

Select Edit library at the top level or Edit folder inside a folder. Edit mode lets you:

  • drag items into the order you want;
  • select one or several folders or decks;
  • move selected items to another folder;
  • rename an item;
  • delete items you no longer need.

When the structure is correct, select Done to leave edit mode. A folder’s action menu is available while editing; deck actions are available from the deck menu.

To reverse the latest supported library edit while edit mode is active, press Cmd+Z on macOS or Ctrl+Z on Windows and Linux. The shortcut is ignored while you are typing in a field, so it will not unexpectedly undo your library structure.

Find a card

Use the card search from Library when you remember a card but not its deck. Enter at least two characters to begin searching. Open a result to return to the deck that contains it.

Clear, topic-specific deck names make search results and review context easier to understand. Avoid relying on folder names alone to distinguish several decks with identical names.

Study a whole folder

Open a folder and select Study now to study cards from that folder and its nested folders. This is useful for a full subject review while keeping the cards divided into manageable decks.

For a narrow session, open one deck instead. For all cards currently due across the library, use Review. The study and ratings guide explains the difference.
